Considering the need for a huge number of competent classroom practitioners who are proficient in English, the Waymade College of Education was established in June 2004. The college, for which generous financial support came from Shri Bhikhubhai Patel and Shri Vijaybhai Patel of Ode (now in London), prepares graduate teachers with a B.Ed. degree who can teach Social Sciences, Environmental Science, Economics, Commerce, English, Sanskrit, Mathematics, Science through English. With a view to meeting the needs of the international state-of-the-art schools the course has been updated and is now called B. Ed. Advanced. The numerous courses that the student teachers study comprise philosophy, psychology and sociology of education, educational thinkers, educational administration and management, educational technology, computer education, communication skills and personality development for teachers, pedagogies of teaching as well as methods of teaching specific subjects. Inculcation of values and concern for the society are developed among the students through the unique Community Outreach Programmes. Apart from the regular B. Ed. Advanced programme, numerous need-based in-service courses and workshops are organized on and off the campus. M. Ed., the post-graduate programme in teacher education, is proposed to be offered from the ensuing year. Ph.D. guidance is already available. During its journey of the past four years, the college has already made its presence felt through its publications, training programmes and contribution in the field of technology. Affiliated to Sardar Patel University the college is recognized by the NCTE. With well-furnished classrooms and facilities like computer laboratory, geography laboratory, mathematics science laboratory, communication laboratory, psychology laboratory equipment for sports and music etc., the institution, which has won four national and three state-level awards for integration of technology in classroom teaching, is poised to be a leading college of education. Intel Education and Deakin University in partnership with IMRB International monitoring agency has studied the college as a case for integration of technology in education and appreciated the zeal and passion displayed by the teachers and the students of the college. It is also reported that "Things were not there at the level of conversation, discussion but at the level of execution and manifestation."
